(FOX 5/KUSI) — California’s June Primary Election will determine more than just which candidates advance to the November general election.

Voters in San Diego will vote on Measure A, and North County residents in Oceanside, Carlsbad and Vista will also be voting on Measure H.

Mail ballots were sent out in early May and must be turned in or postmarked by Tuesday, June 2, and there are many voting locations that allow in-person voting, along with polls opening on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Measure A

Measure A — Known as the vacant non-primary homes tax. City of San Diego residents will be voting yes or no on taxing non-primary residential homes that are vacant more than 182 days per year.

The measure would allow the city to tax owners of those vacant homes $8,000 in 2027, rising to $10,000 in the years after, excluding some owner-occupied primary residences and long-term rentals.

The measure would also allow the city to tax corporate-owned properties at higher rates, with the city projecting up to $24 million annually in revenue.

The fate of Measure A will be decided in the June election — with no November vote.

Measure H

Community hospital Tri-City Medical Center, serving North County residents in Oceanside, Carlsbad and Vista, will be on the ballot for residents in those cities to vote on whether or not to establish a partnership with Sharp HealthCare.

The community hospital has been in operation for 65 years, but the adoption of Measure H would allow for Sharp HealthCare to invest $100 million to repair and upgrade the existing hospital facilities, including replacing aging equipment with the latest technology. It would also allow the hospital to retain and attract doctors, nurses and medical specialists and open up the possibility of restoring previously eliminated health care services.

The Tri-City Healthcare District Board of Directors voted in December 2025 and again in February 2026 to bring the measure to a public vote.

Measure H is not a tax and will not have any tax impact on local voters or taxpayers. The measure needs a simple majority to pass.

The measure will only appear on the ballots of those who live in the Tri-City Healthcare District boundaries, which include Oceanside, Carlsbad and Vista.
