Padres minors: Germán Márquez starts rehab with El Paso, Ian Koenig pitches Missions to win

Germán Márquez got off on the right foot to start his rehab assignment.

The 31-year-old right-hander struck out three wile allowing just one hit in 2⅓ innings in Triple-A El Paso’s 7-2 loss to visiting Sugar Land.

Márquez threw 23 of his 36 pitches for strikes. He has been on the injured list since May 3 with forearm nerve inflammation.

He had a 5.76 ERA in six starts (29⅔ innings) to start the year in the Padres rotation.

Left-hander Jackson Wolf (2-4, 5.76 ERA) allowed four runs — one earned — in 2⅓ innings in relief to take the loss.

Third baseman Pablo Reyes (.967 OPS) went 2-for-5 and shortstop Mason McCoy (.829 OPS) went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Right fielder Nick Schnell (.851 OPS) went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
