E. coli lawsuit

Atwater Village—A family is suing The Kebab Shop and beef supplier Olympia Food Industries after a child allegedly developed a severe E. coli infection from beef kofta eaten at the chain’s Atwater Village location. The lawsuit says the child was hospitalized, diagnosed with hemolytic uremic syndrome, required dialysis and transfusions, and suffered seizures. The L.A. Times

Longtime Latino art gallery closes

East Los Angeles—CM2Arts/ChimMaya, a gallery that showcased Latino and Chicano artists for two decades, held its final exhibit and closed permanently at the end of May. Founder and Creative Director Steven Acevedo said caregiving for his mother left him without the focus and energy to continue curating. The gallery, at 5251 E. Beverly Blvd., hosted exhibitions and events featuring emerging and established artists. Acevedo said the gallery helped elevate Latino and Chicano art in East Los Angeles and beyond.

Silver Lake—The Chocolate Dispensary will celebrate its second anniversary with an all-day community event Saturday, June 6, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The celebration will feature collaborations with Slow Tea, Bellie Bellies Hug Cakes and Mischief Treats, plus tastings, prizes, special guests and chocolate-focused festivities throughout the day.
