Santa Clara County has issued a warrant for the arrest of San Francisco 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk over a misdemeanor speeding violation allegedly committed at the end of last year.
In December, the receiver posted a video on social media of himself driving past Levi’s Stadium at 104 mph, approximately 2.5 times the posted speed limit of the road he was on, causing many fans and observers to express concern for the former first-rounder. Aiyuk later apologized for the video. According to court documents, the video made its way to the Santa Clara Police Department on Dec. 22, two days after its initial upload to YouTube, as did the apology post on Jan. 7.
Santa Clara police declined to provide the warrant to SFGATE because it was still being “processed.”
Realistically, this legal trouble won’t have much of an impact on his remaining time in the Bay Area. The 28-year-old remains on the Niners roster, but in name only.
At the end of last offseason, the organization voided Aiyuk’s guarantees for the 2026 season. He ghosted the team during the season, which led the organization to slap the “left squad” designation on the reserved list by his name — this was around the time Aiyuk posted the speeding video. Despite all this, general manager John Lynch still implored teams to give San Francisco a call to make a deal for its disgruntled outcast receiver. However, even interested teams have had issues pulling off a move for Aiyuk, as the Commanders reportedly have had trouble getting ahold of him.
