BAKERSFIELD, CA – Two-time NHRA Pacific Division Super Street champion James Brown and Wes Anderson were the winners of the third and fourth races of the Southern California Super Street Association Able Wire EDM-sponsored championship series held at Famoso Dragstrip.  

The third race of the season—sponsored by Broguiere’s Dairy—saw Dale Taros lead qualifying with a 10.910 time (10.90 index) with his ’72 Datsun Z, earning the Mechanix Wear qualifying award, followed by James Brown at 10.917, Kelly Giacalone was third with a 10.922, and PJ Giacalone was fourth with a 10.923 with his ’55 Chevy.

Quarterfinal racing opened with Kelly Giacalone defeating Mike Boner, PJ Giacalone defeated Wes Anderson in a double-breakout race, and James Brown defeated David Butler.  Scott Brown got a bye into the semifinals. Scott Brown defeated the Mustang of Kelly Giacalone to open the semis, and James Brown used a .002 reaction time to defeat PJ Giacalone, setting up an all-Brown final round.  Hometown racer James Brown got a starting line advantage in the final round, and took the win with a 10.914, 147.97 with his blue ’90 Olds, while ’25 Rookie of the Year Scott Brown broke-out with his ’66 Nova.

Able Wire EDM was the sponsor of the Sunday event, where Kelly Giacalone earned the Mechanix Wear number one qualifier award with a perfect 10.900 with her ’88 Mustang.  Scott Brown and Dale Taros both ran 10.902 times for the second and third spots on the ladder, and Ted Kellner was fourth at 10.904 with his Chevy Vega.

Wes Anderson opened the quarterfinals by defeating red-lighting Mike Boner, Jordan Yeager ran a 10.906 to beat David Pohl who broke-out, David Butler recorded a perfect reaction time and 10.92 to stop Peter Yoon’s Camaro, and Kelly Giacalone got a bye into the semifinals.  Double-breakouts made up the semifinals, with Giacalone defeating Butler, and Anderson advancing with a 10.899 to reigning Super Street Shootout champion Jordan Yeager, losing with a 10.874 after recording a .000 reaction. Anderson cruised to a final round win at 11.02, 124.58 mph pass with his ’27 roadster as Giacalone slowed with 11.39, 131.36.  

The SoCal Super Street series returns to Famoso Dragstrip on June 13–14, 2026, with RaceTrans.com and Smith Motorsports sponsoring the doubleheader event.

At the season midpoint, Kelly Giacalone leads the championship standings with 2056 points ahead of Wes Anderson (2035), Jordan Yeager (2019), and Scott Brown (1741). Giacalone also leads the Super Street Shootout standings with 51 points, followed by Dale Taros (49), Mike Boner (43), and PJ Giacalone (41).
