It’s just around October, when we’re in the spooky throes of the Halloween season, when the cheerful chatter begins to murmur: When will that gigantic bow, the glittery red ribbon that is placed atop a Southern California shopping destination, make its annual debut?

And, alongside it, at nearly the same moment, we ask this: When will a festive specimen that is billed as the “World’s Tallest Fresh-Cut Christmas Tree” make its way down the Golden State Freeway with a final stop at the Citadel Outlets?

The shop-packed place is known for super-big things, in short, and that tradition will continue when a soccer ball measuring some 20 feet in height is officially unveiled June 5, just in time for World Cup revelries across the region.

This enormous orb, called the “World’s Biggest Soccer Ball,” will be on view through July 31, should you need a quick snapshot at the playful pop-up.

Opening day will feature some special soccer surprises, but if you can’t make it June 5, look for a large LED screen near the soccer ball in the Center Court area, with match highlights and more broadcast to shoppers.

The Citadel Outlets team shares that the unveiling of the attraction “… reflects Los Angeles’ deep connection to global sport and celebrates the city’s diverse fans, families, and communities who come together through the sport.”

The shopping center is also teaming up with the Boys & Girls Club of Whittier/Pico Rivera “… on a sports gear donation drive benefiting local youth programs, encouraging the community to donate new and gently used soccer equipment and sports gear,” donations that will help young players around the area.
