FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Firefighters are battling a large fire at an industrial building in downtown Fresno that sent thick black smoke into the air Thursday afternoon.

The fire was reported just after 3 p.m. near L and M streets.

Multiple 911 callers reported seeing smoke coming from the building, and responding crews could see a large column of black smoke while en route.

When firefighters arrived, they found the warehouse fully involved in flames and quickly moved into a defensive firefighting operation due to the intensity of the fire and concerns about a partial building collapse.

The building is divided between two tenants, the Screamin Demons Motorcycle Club and Los Alamos Distributing.

The Demons lost 20 years of club history.

Fire crews are working to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.

A neighboring building has been evacuated as a precaution.

Officials say the fire has also damaged power lines and caused pressurized cylinders inside the building to explode, creating additional hazards for firefighters.

A second alarm was called, bringing 46 firefighters to the scene.

No injuries have been reported, and it is not yet clear whether anyone was inside the building when the fire started.

Several roads in the area, including portions of L Street, have been closed due to downed power lines and emergency response activity.

Railroad tracks nearby have also been impacted.

Residents are being asked to avoid the area while crews continue working to bring the fire under control.
