Investigators in Long Beach have made an arrest in what appeared to be a random stabbing that left a woman bloodied and hospitalized earlier this week.
The incident occurred just after 10:30 p.m. on May 28 in the 4500 block of California Avenue in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Investigators said the woman was walking outside the condo complex where she lives when a man approached and stabbed her multiple times, leaving her with injuries to her upper and lower body.
Footage from the police and fire response shows blood on the sidewalk outside the building. The victim can be seen with blood on her legs and face as she is wheeled on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance.

She was hospitalized in stable condition, authorities said.
One couple who heard the woman’s screams for help told KTLA’s Carlos Saucedo they were not immediately sure what was happening.
“When I heard a woman yelling, ‘Call the police, I’ve been stabbed. I live here, let me in the building,’ that’s when I was like, ‘We should call 911,’” Rafael Molinar said.
Alyssa Guhit confirmed his account and said the victim also asked a person passing in a white pickup truck for help. That person reportedly drove off before later returning and providing a statement to police.

Although a surveillance photo in the case was released, investigators later identified the suspect as 27-year-old Long Beach resident Joseph Hernandez, who was in custody for an unrelated offense. Authorities did not say what that arrest was for or when he was taken into custody.
So far, a motive for the the violence has not been released.

A little more than four and a half hours after the first stabbing, around 3 a.m., a second person was stabbed in the 3200 block of Anaheim Street, about six and a half miles from the first scene.
In that case, a male suspect fled, leaving the victim with a stab wound to the upper body, according to Long Beach Watchdog. The victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
Investigators have not said whether they believe Hernandez is tied to the second stabbing.
Hernandez was booked on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the initial incident, and bail was set at $1 million. Police have presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
