A Sacramento County man is frustrated after his car was stolen while it was being serviced at a car dealership and then crashed into a CVS in Auburn during an apparent attempted burglary. “I get a call from Placer County that they believe my vehicle was driven through a CVS,” Brian Maydahl said. Maydahl said he got the call around 5 a.m. on Thursday, May 21 and initially thought the situation was a mistake. “Maybe they had information off an old car, got some numbers mixed up. It seemed laughable,” he said. “I drove down there in another car I was in and there was my car in CVS.” The Placer County Sheriff’s Office said the car was crashed into the Auburn CVS store during an apparent attempted burglary after it was stolen out of Sacramento. Maydahl said his vehicle had been at Maita Subaru for servicing. “I was like there is no way. This is a concierge level dealership. They wouldn’t let this happen,” he said. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that thieves stole two cars and several sets of keys from the dealership and crashed through at least one gate when they left. Maydahl’s car was found crashed at the CVS, while the other stolen vehicle was discovered abandoned in Sacramento the next day with some of the stolen keys inside. “I’ve been coming here since I was 16 years old. For a long time. I have a lot of loyalty this to Maita. And I was met with, you know, the first conversation that they’re not liable and that when I dropped it off, I signed something off,” Maydahl said. A representative from the dealership declined to go on camera but described the incident as “a very unfortunate circumstance.” The representative said the dealership did everything possible to secure the stolen cars and emphasized that they are working with their insurance company to assist everyone involved. “My insurance has to cover all this,” Maydahl said. “I’m just asking the dealership to cover a few thousand dollars.” After decades of loyalty to the dealership, Maydahl said he hopes the business prioritizes customer care over profits. “I just thought it would be a nice gesture to make things right by me and do without trying to make money. I know I spent money here over the years, it’s neither here or there, but I am a return customer. I want to continue that,” he said.
