The Sierra United 08G team took a trip down to the Bay Area this past weekend and came back champions of the U17/U18 San Jose Summer Rush Cup, which was held in Morgan Hill.
The tournament was hosted by the San Jose Rush Soccer Club and saw boy and girl competitors from divisions U8 to U19.
All 16 players put together a championship effort and outscored their opponents by a cumulative margin of 8-0, while not surrendering a single goal throughout all four games of the entire tournament.
The team advanced all the way to the finals, a rematch against the Templeton Eagles whom Sierra United had tied in their first meeting of the weekend, and ultimately had the last laugh, winning 2-0 in the final match.
The Eagles were the tournament champions last season and had won eight straight games before they were knocked off by Sierra United.
The Sierra United program and Tuolumne County were well-represented on the field and demonstrated high character alongside a firm grasp of the physical and mental aspects of the game of soccer.
Game 1: Sierra United vs. MVLA San Jose (4-0, win)
Game 2: Sierra United vs. Templeton Eagles (0-0, tie)
Game 3: Sierra United vs. South Valley Surf (2-0, win)
Game 4 (Final): Sierra United vs. Templeton Eagles (2-0, win)
