The San Francisco 49ers won’t get Brock Purdy back in uniform Sunday when they face the New York Giants.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Friday told reporters Purdy was questionable to play, but he left the door open to Purdy being the team’s emergency third QB. NFL rules allow teams to have an emergency third QB who isn’t part of the active gameday roster. The emergency QB can only play if the starter and backup are hurt and unable to return to the game.
Purdy was ruled out when the team announced its Week 9 list of inactive players, and there was no designation that he’d be suited up as the emergency signal caller, meaning Purdy will be on the sideline in street clothes for the fifth consecutive week.
Here’s the full list of inactives:

Some good news for San Francisco: linebacker Dee Winters (knee), defensive end Sam Okuayinonu (ankle) and defensive tackle Jordan Elliott (ankle) are all healthy after being listed as questionable on the Friday injury report. All three were banged up in the 49ers’ Week 8 loss to the Houston Texans.
Newly-acquired defensive end Keion White is set to make his 49ers debut after spending his first two-plus seasons with the New England Patriots. Clelin Ferrell will also be active after signing to the practice squad this week and being elevated to the active roster Saturday.
Kickoff from MetLife Stadium is slated for 10:00am Pacific Time.
