For people looking to escape the heat in Bakersfield, the McMurtrey Aquatic Center is one option.
The city also has three other pools: Jefferson Pool, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Pool and Silver Creek Pool.
Brittany Mesa-Bailey, a recreation specialist, said summer programming begins when schools let out.
“So, every summer usually when the schools get out, we open up for our summer programming. Yesterday was day one of open swim for the public for all four of our sites,” Mesa-Bailey said.
