(FOX40.COM) — An illegal Vegas-style gambling business operating in south Sacramento County has been busted, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.
On May 20, deputies received a tip of a suspected illegal casino operating at a property in the 8200 block of Florin Road in the Florin area.
Six months earlier, deputies had arrested 52-year-old Dung Nguyen at the same location for illegal gambling, in addition to being a felon in possession of a firearm, as well as possession of a machine gun, sheriff spokesperson Edward Igoe said. He was released from police custody the following November day.
Deputies watched the property for weeks until enough evidence was collected to obtain a search warrant. The property was searched on May 27 by deputies with assistance from the Elk Grove Police Department. Nguyen was arrested again along with two others on site. Three people on site were arrested.
During the search, deputies found five firearms, numerous casino-style gambling machines, more than $100,000 in suspected illegal gambling proceeds, and electronic storage devices containing potential evidence, the sheriff’s office said.
Nguyen was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. His bail was set at $1 million and he is next scheduled to appear in court on June 10, jail records show.
