FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A new pop-up restaurant with a gothic twist made its debut in Fresno, drawing both meat-eaters and vegans to Strummer’s Bar in the Tower District, on Saturday, June 6.
“Everything was really amazing,” Amanda P., a customer, said. “The fries are delicious too.”
Badd Burgers offers a menu designed to appeal to different diets, including vegan versions of its meat options.
“I wanted to do a mirrored menu of every single burger just so everyone could eat,” Co-owner Tommy Marquez said. “Some people have actually told us that our vegan burgers taste even better than some of the big ones.”
The brand started in Texas and has recently moved to Fresno.
Marquez said the concept grew from his own interest in making burgers.
“I just started making burgers and I really liked it. It’s just fun and there’s the sky’s limit on creativity,” he said.
That creativity also shows up in the restaurant’s gothic theme, which Marquez said is partially rooted in his background in music.
“I’ve been a musician for like 25 years,” he said. “It’s based off of the music. It’s based off of the fashion. It’s (even) based off our names, (which) are a little like sinister…. we have one called ‘The Heathen.’”
The pop-up coincided with a live performance at the venue by Agent Orange, a punk band.
Marquez said he hopes the event will be the first of many in Fresno.
