Disney’s beloved HBCU celebration is back this Juneteenth, where the yard is open to everyone
As part of Disney’s Celebrate Soulfully: Summer Vibes celebration kicking off on Juneteenth, Yardfest is returning to the Downtown Disney District. The free event, Disney On The Yard presents Yardfest: Part of Celebrate Soulfully, will be held June 19 from 5-9 p.m
The free event will celebrate the traditions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities with drum majors, a live drumline, and an appearance by Drum Major Mickey Mouse on June 19 from 5-9 p.m. Yardfest opens this year’s Celebrate Soulfully: Summer Vibes, a month‑long series that lasts from June 19 to July 19 showcasing Black heritage and culture across the Disneyland Resort through music, food, art and iconic character encounters.
This year’s Yardfest will be hosted by two HBCU alumni: Mel Mitchell, a comedian, actress and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. member known for her sharp, pop‑culture‑driven humor, alongside Obio Jones, an actor, speaker and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. member who uplifts and tells inclusive storytelling through his work.
No event of this level is complete without music, which will sound throughout the evening, with sets from DJ Quami along with performances by the Texas Southern University Ocean of Soul Marching Band and Drum Major Mickey scheduled at 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m., and 8:15 p.m.
Guests can also join trivia and other fun family games for a chance to win prizes, including a Disney on the Yard Powerpack or a 5-Year commemorative hand fan.
For the foodies, several limited‑time items will be available at Parkside Market locations, including Royal Court Latte, Frozen Strawberry Yard‑Ade, The Yard cocktail with strawberry Hennessy, Grand Marnier, bergamot and lemon, Homecoming Sliders and Red Velvet Reunion whoopie pie.
Within Disneyland Park, guests have a chance to meet Ariel from the live‑action film near the “It’s a Small World” ride or find Tiana telling stories in New Orleans Square. In Disney California Adventure, appearances by Black Panther and the Dora Milaje for Marvel fans and performances from Five & Dime on Buena Vista Street are sure to wow guests.
Disney on the Yard is meant to connect HBCU alumni across The Walt Disney Company with one another. Students and graduates in attendance can explore internships, mentorships and career growth opportunities to be a part of the Disney family.
