San Francisco chef Dominique Crenn is planning to close Le Comptoir, the Michelin-starred dinner counter inside Bar Crenn, while instead expanding the menu at the cocktail lounge.

Crenn announced the news Friday in an Instagram post, saying the vision for Bar Crenn, which she opened in 2018 on Fillmore Street, naturally evolved after the challenges of the pandemic.

“Our cocktail and lounge program has grown into an essential part of Bar Crenn and has been embraced and celebrated by our guests, friends, and community,” Crenn said. “As we continue this journey, we are entering a new chapter.”

Crenn said the bar will be expanding its menu with “new dishes that reflect who we are today while deepening the experience that has always defined Bar Crenn: exceptional hospitality, a carefully curated wine program, and extraordinary cocktails,” crafted by mixology director Florian Thireau.

Meanwhile, closing the dinner experience at Bar Crenn “allows us to create more of the warm, welcoming atmosphere our guests have come to love, a place where they can settle in, connect, and truly feel at home,” Crenn wrote on Instagram.

Le Comptoir, a French omakase counter tucked inside the bar, earned one star in the Michelin guide.

Crenn was the first woman in the U.S. to receive two, and later three, Michelin stars. One of her other restaurants, Atelier Crenn in San Francisco, is ranked No. 29 among the Chronicle’s Top 100 restaurants this year.
