Students compete in Hearst Journalism Awards in San Francisco
WXII 12 NEWS. ALL RIGHT BETHANY, THANK YOU. SOME OF THE BEST JOURNALISM STUDENTS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY WERE IN SAN FRANCISCO THIS WEEK, COMPETING IN THE 66TH HEARST NATIONAL JOURNALISM CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR U. N C CHAPEL HILL STUDENTS. AMONG THOSE HONORED LAST NIGHT, THE JUDGES HANDED OUT AWARDS IN WRITING, PHOTO, AUDIO, TV, MULTIMEDIA AND PODCAST. ALL WEEK, THE STUDENTS HAVE BEEN SPREAD OUT ACROSS THE CITY, PUTTING TOGETHER THEIR FINAL ASSIGNMENTS UNDER THE PRESSURES OF A DEADLINE. THE AWARDS HONOR EXCELLENCE IN STUDENT JOURNALISM AND GIVE STUDENTS A CHANCE TO SHOWCASE THEIR TALENT TO INDUSTRY LEADERS. THIS WEEK HAS BEEN LIFE CHANGING IN THE SIMPLEST WAYS. IT WAS THE LITTLE CONVERSATIONS, THE STORIES THAT I GOT TO JUST EXPERIENCE BY MEETING RANDOM STRANGERS ON THE STREETS. INTERACTIONS WERE PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT AND SPECIAL TO ME. ALL OF THE FINALISTS WHO COMPETED RECEIVED A SCHOLARSHIP AWARD LAST NIGHT. THE FIRST PLACE WINNER IN EACH CATEGORY GOT $10,000.
