BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Six days after a man went into the Chase Bank building in downtown Bakersfield, announced he had a bomb and held 10 people hostage, the bank branch has reopened.

The Chase Bank branch, located at Chester Avenue and 17th Street, reopened on Monday morning, a spokesperson for JPMorganChase told 17 News.

The Kern County Superintendents of Schools, which has offices throughout the rest of the building, will remain closed until further notice, a spokesperson with KCSOS said.

The KCSOS spokesperson added that it’s their understanding that the bank is the only part of the building that is open.

The hostage taker, identified as Anthony Scott Searles-Harris, 41, died early on Wednesday after being shot by the FBI.

The standoff with local and federal law enforcement spanned nearly 15 hours. All hostages, all KCSOS employees, were released with no physical injuries.
