Cuts are on the table today, as the San Diego City Council meets to finalize a budget plan aimed at closing a 118 million dollar, or more, deficit.
Mayor Todd Gloria’s proposed budget includes cuts to libraries, rec centers and arts and culture programs.
However, there are at least two alternative proposals that could restore portions of the funding.
The Mayor’s priority has been law enforcement, keeping fire departments fully staffed and infrastructure projects. All are expensive, which means cuts will have to come from somewhere else.
Negotiations could be drawn out today if the council can’t come to an agreement, or if the Mayor uses his line item veto.
