A Los Angeles police officer was shot in Boyle Heights Tuesday when gunfire erupted at the end of a stolen vehicle chase, multiple law enforcement sources told NBC4 Investigates.
According to preliminary information by the sources, the officer was shot in the chest at least once, but the round was stopped by the officer’s ballistic vest. He was in stable condition, the sources said.
The suspect was also hit by gunfire and taken to a hospital, the LAPD said.
The pursuit of the stolen car began in the South Los Angele area, but it ended in Boyle Heights, according to the sources.
