Over the past year, Optimum Sorting has grown to more than €40 million in revenue. The company is continuing to invest in its operations, including the relocation of its California facility to Sacramento. The move expands its presence in the U.S. market and places it closer to customers in the nut, fruit, and vegetable processing sectors.

A new facility in Sacramento
After operating in Turlock for many years, Optimum Sorting relocated to a larger facility in Sacramento on June 1, 2026, increasing its footprint by 50% compared with the previous location. The facility has been designed to accommodate customer visits and product demonstrations, with dedicated space for testing and evaluation.
The Sacramento site will serve as a demonstration center where processors can test products on Optimum Sorting equipment under conditions that reflect commercial production environments.

Two sorting systems are installed at the facility: the Novus belt sorter and the Ventus free-fall sorter. The systems use camera- and laser-based technology for sorting applications. While the primary focus is on nuts, the facility can also be used for vegetables, fruit, dried fruit, and confectionery products.
California’s role in processing
California remains an important market due to its nut industry, including almonds, pistachios, and walnuts. The Ventus sorter is used to detect defects and contaminants such as discoloration, shape and size deviations, stones, glass, foreign materials, and aflatoxin contamination.

The state is also a major producer of fruits and vegetables. Optimum Sorting’s technology is used across a range of crops, including blueberries, raspberries, carrots, lettuce, onions, and peas.
“Over the years, we have built a strong customer base in California. Today, more than 20 producers operate Novus or Ventus machines, often with multiple systems at a single site. This level of trust reflects how well our technology is embedded in the local food industry and how our sorters deliver real value in processing nuts, vegetables, and (dried) fruit. These successful installations provide a solid foundation for further expanding our activities in the region,” said Steve Raskin, CSO and co-founder of Optimum Sorting.

Growth in the U.S. market
Since its founding nearly ten years ago, Optimum Sorting has expanded its U.S. activities. Its Denver headquarters has supported customers and partners across North America since 2018. The company later established a demonstration center in Turlock, with those activities now transferred to Sacramento.
According to the company, the new facility will support collaboration with customers on process improvements, yield optimisation, and product quality, while providing local technical support and product testing capabilities.
