A 26-year-old man was charged Tuesday with attempted murder and multiple other felony offenses after he allegedly shot into a vehicle that was carrying six people, including children, authorities said.

Kamani Jermaine Taylor is accused of firing a gun at an SUV in the 1200 block of 78th Avenue in East Oakland, according to Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson. Six occupants were inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting, prosecutors said.

Taylor faces one count of attempted murder. He is also charged with six counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, child abuse, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, shooting at an unoccupied motor vehicle and two misdemeanor counts of brandishing a firearm.

Taylor is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. on Wednesday in Department 112 of Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.

No additional details about the circumstances of the shooting or the condition of those involved were immediately released.
