Kern County Public Works to host bulky waste collection event in Wofford Heights
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County Public Works announced a bulky waste collection event in Wofford Heights this month, during which residents can drop off their large household waste for free.
The event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 27, at Wofford Heights Park at 316 East Evans Rd.
It is being held in partnership with the Farmworkers Institute of Education & Leadership Development and Thomas Refuse, according to officials.
Through these events, the county said it aims to address and prevent the illegal dumping issue. According to officials, bulky items like appliances, mattresses and furniture make up a “significant portion” of the waste found at illegal dumpsites throughout Kern.
Bulky waste includes household appliances like refrigerators and water heaters, mattresses, furniture, electronics, barbecue grills and other bulky residential items.
Tires without rims will also be accepted by FIELD during the event, according to Public Works. Only nine tires are allowed to be transported per trip.
Items not accepted at the event include construction waste, demolition and remodeling waste, household trash, green waste, hazardous waste and commercial waste, officials said.
Public Works officials reminded residents to tarp or secure their load before transporting it to the event. Commercial or business waste won’t be accepted as this is for residential waste only.
