Fire crews were busy Wednesday as multiple fires broke out in the Sacramento region. Gusty north winds and dry vegetation increased the risk for fast-spreading fires across the Sacramento Valley. A Red Flag Warning is in effect through 5 p.m. on Thursday.Turkey FireThe Turkey Fire burned on the south shore of Lake Camanche in Calaveras County near the communities of Wallace, Burson and Valley Springs. The fire was first reported to be burning near Turkey Hill Trail and Pattison Road, according to Cal Fire. The fire grew to 48 acres before forward progress was stopped. Evacuation orders and warnings were issued, but were later lifted around 8:45 p.m., according to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. The fire burned on Pioneer Avenue along the east side of the Highway 113 interchange with Interstate 5, according to the Woodland Fire Department. LiveCopter 3 footage showed the fire near the train tracks and burning toward East Beamer Street. Forward progress was stopped and the fire was contained around 3 p.m.A separate fire burned in a field nearby north of East Kentucky Avenue, between North Pioneer Avenue and CR 101. A road closure was put in place on East Kentucky between North Pioneer and CR 102. Forward progress was stopped on the fire around 4:34 p.m., officials. The cause of the fires are under investigation.
