BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Animal Care Center will be offering free dog tags and microchips throughout the month of June for Bakersfield city residents.
The center said that pet owners do not have to be adopting a dog to be eligible for a free tag or microchip. They said dogs do not have to be previously adopted from the shelter to be eligible, either.
Residents who want a dog tag or to microchip their pet can go to the shelter during business hours with contact information and their dog’s name to be etched into the dog tag.
The event comes as the shelter is gearing up for one of their busiest days of the year.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Animal Care Center said that July 5 is typically the highest day of intakes for the city shelter, along with the week and weekend of the Fourth of July.
