A dead body was found in West Oakland on Tuesday afternoon, Oakland police said. 

Officers responded to the 500 block of 34th Street around 1 p.m. Tuesday, the Oakland Police Department said in a Thursday morning statement. When they arrived, they found the body of a deceased man. 

The Mercury News reported that the location was a homeless encampment, where the man’s body was found buried and partially decomposed. 

The cause of his death was unclear pending an autopsy, police said. No other identifying details about the man were immediately released. 

“Investigators from the OPD Homicide Division are conducting a follow-up investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death,” police said.
