A soldier from West Seneca recently died after being struck by an M2 Bradley fighting vehicle during a training exercise at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, Calif., military officials confirmed.
The soldier — identified as Spc. Adrian Bonsey, a combat engineer assigned to the 9th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division — died early Wednesday. The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. while he was on foot in a training area under limited visibility conditions.
“This is a devastating loss for our entire division,” Maj. Gen. John Lubas, commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division, said in a statement.
“Adrian was an exceptional Soldier who was committed to our mission and proudly serving our Nation. We are heartbroken and will wrap our arms around his family, loved ones, and fellow Soldiers during this difficult time.”
Bonsey joined the U.S. Army in 2023 and had been stationed at Fort Stewart for two months. Before that, he served at Fort Carson, Colo., and was deployed to Poland in 2024 as part of his military service.
“The U.S. Army’s Combat Readiness Center, the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division and the U.S. Army Transformation and Training Command are investigating the incident,” military officials said in a statement.
