Boyle Heights—A sports utility vehicle erupted in flames after a single-vehicle crash in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, the California Highway Patrol reported tody.
CHP officers responded at approximately 12:32 a.m. Friday to the East Seventh Street exit of the northbound Hollywood (101) Freeway where the vehicle landed halfway down the freeway embankment before crashing near a tree, a CHP spokesman told City News Service.

Flames were seen darting from underneath the hood and Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters responded to the scene and knocked down the flames.
The driver escaped from the vehicle before it burst into flames.
The crash closed all northbound lanes just south of Seventh Street for an hour before it reopened around 2 a.m. Friday.
