OAKLAND, Maine (WABI) – A woman with the Oakland American Legion has been working on a quilt of the American flag for more than five months and is now raffling it off to support veteran organizations in the state.
Dawn Brasil says she was inspired to create the quilt dedicated to the nation’s 250th birthday after discussion of a friendly competition with other legions.
After beginning in January, any time Brasil could find was spent knitting.
She is now selling raffle tickets for a lucky winner of the quilt with the proceeds going to Women Veteran’s Glamping, Maine Veterans Project, and Maine Veteran Woodturners.
She says it’s critical to keep an eye out for veterans because without them, we wouldn’t have our freedom.
“Because our veterans are very important and I like to give back and it’s going to go to a couple of donations and it’s helping people out,” answered Brasil.
She says one thing comes to mind when she looks at the quilt.
“The love that went into it and the love that I hope somebody gets when they get it,” said Brasil.
Brasil says she hopes to see the quilt go to a veteran.
If you’re interested in purchasing a raffle ticket, she says to email her. Her email is Mainewolf123@gmail.com.
