Another week passes with no paychecks owed by OCU

  • June 13, 2026

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. (WFIE) – Oakland City University President Dr. Ron Dempsey told 14 News Friday that they are looking at the first of next week for funds to flow from the donors’ sources.

It’s yet another pushed back timeline he’s given over the last seven weeks.

Laid off employees are owed three missed paychecks.

“We are taking other steps such as selling houses, properties, and vacant lots in Oakland City,” he said. “Those take time to sell and close, but at least we are in direct control.”

We’ve reported the plans to sell properties, but we now know, according to Dr. Dempsey, the number of tenants who will need to find a new place to live.

He says just three tenants will need to vacate.

According to online records, OCU owns nearly 70 properties.

As for students, we’ve reported several area colleges are offering help with transferring.

Officials with the Indiana Commission for Higher Education tell us OCU does not fall under their authority, since they are private.

However, they say the Commission is available to help impacted students in accessing their state financial aid.

Students may contact the Commission’s Financial Aid Support Center at 888-528-4719 or awards@che.in.gov.
