Prosecutors charged an Oakland man with misdemeanor hit-and-run driving, almost two weeks after he allegedly abandoned his car after crashing it into two parklets and a Castro district business.

Kejwine Kevin Patts, 30, was arraigned Thursday and charged with three counts of hit-and-run driving involving property damage and one count of reckless driving, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced Friday. Patts has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.

The San Francisco Police Department responded to a solo vehicle collision near Castro and 17th streets at around 1:48 a.m. on May 31. Police said the driver of a sedan had hit two parklets before colliding with a Castro Street building, where the car came to a stop. No injuries were reported.

The sedan was left at the scene, but officers were unable to find its driver. Patts was identified with follow-up investigative work and help from the public, police said. He was arrested five days later and booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of vandalism and misdemeanor hit-and-run involving property damage.

Patts was out of custody on Friday, under orders not to drive between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and to complete a driver’s safety course, prosecutors said. His next court date is Sept. 17.
