A day after taking a 94 mph baseball off the back of his helmet, Xander Bogaerts is in the lineup at shortstop as the Padres seek their first back-to-back wins since May 22-23.

Sunday’s first pitch in Baltimore is at 10:35 a.m. on Padres.TV.

Bogaerts initially remained in the game, scored a run after the hit-by-pitch and played shortstop in the bottom of the fifth inning. But he was ultimately replaced as a precaution by Sung-Mun Song after experiencing “spasms” near his neck.

Bogaerts is 1-for-4 with two walks and the hit-by-pitch in two games since returning from paternity leave.

Bogaerts (.664 OPS) will hit fourth, between third baseman Manny Machado (.619 OPS) and first baseman Gavin Sheets (.779).

The Padres also pulled Freddy Fermin from Saturday’s game after a warm-up pitch bounced in the dirt in front of the plate and struck him under the helmet near his ear, the latest blow to his head.

Fermin is not in Sunday’s lineup, giving way to Rodolfo Durán (.683 OPS), who will bat ninth. Minor leaguer Blake Hunt is in the Padres clubhouse this morning, according to the Union-Tribune’s Kevin Acee, but there is no word on a roster move yet. Duran was summoned to the Padres in April as a taxi squad player after a previous concussion scare with Fermin but was not activated until later, when Luis Campusano broke his toe.

Fernando Tatis Jr. (.693 OPS) will play second and lead off, followed by center fielder Jackson Merrill (.616 OPS). Left fielder Samad Taylor (.986 OPS) will bat sixth, followed by Nick Solak (.833 OPS) getting his first start as the DH and seven-hole hitter. Right fielder Jase Bowen (.325 OPS) will bat eighth.

The Padres (36-33) are in second in the NL West, eight games behind the Dodgers and tied with the Cubs (37-34) for the NL’s third wild-card spot.

They are looking for their first back-to-back wins since May 22-23 against the Athletics and their first back-to-back series wins since taking two of three in both Anaheim and Colorado (April 17-23).

Sunday’s pitching matchup

Padres RHP Walker Buehler (3-3, 4.33 ERA)

He’s got a 2.25 ERA over his last three start but did not get out of the fifth on Monday against the Reds (4⅔ IP, 1 ERA). Buehler has a 3.32 ERA at home and a 6.23 ERA in five starts away from Petco Park. He has a 2.61 ERA in four career starts against the Orioles, including two last year (9 IP, 4 ER).

Orioles LHP Trevor Rogers (3-6, 6.15 ERA)
