Re “Lengthy vote-counting process unacceptable” (June 7): Maybe the writer does not realize that California is the most populous state in the U.S. with 39.3 million residents. In California, we want every eligible person to have the opportunity to vote. This includes those who work long hours, those far from their polling place, elderly individuals who often don’t drive, rural voters who often live a distance from the polls, the disabled who need assistance, people who can’t afford an Uber or the gas to drive to the polls, etc.
Therefore, many vote by mail; it then takes the postal system time to get the ballots to the Registrar of Voters for an official count, where they are carefully checked and counted.
Voting is for all, not just the chosen few. There is nothing fraudulent about being accurate even if it takes a few days longer! The end result is what counts.
