Dozens of dogs were rescued from a U-Haul truck and a separate vehicle in Murrieta, California, on May 1, resulting in felony animal cruelty charges.
According to an Instagram post from the Murrieta Police Department, officers originally responded to a trespassing call on May 1 and discovered 21 Cavalier King Charles spaniels confined inside a U-Haul truck parked on private property.
The truck’s cargo area lacked ventilation, and the dogs had matted fur and had limited access to food and water. As animal control officers worked to safely remove the animals, the suspect arrived in a separate SUV carrying 12 additional dogs. All 33 dogs were taken by officials and transported to Animal Friends of the Valleys in Lake Elsinore for veterinary care.
