In recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month, anyone who donates blood at the San Diego Blood Bank throughout November will receive a free A1C test, which can detect diabetes early.
According to the American Diabetes Association, Type 1 diabetes can develop in anyone at any age, and many people with Type 2 diabetes are a normal weight or only moderately overweight, making early testing important.
“We’re thrilled to expand our donor wellness benefits to include A1C testing this November,” said San Diego Blood Bank chief executive officer Douglas Morton. “Our donors save lives every day, and now they’ll gain valuable insights into their own health. It’s one more way to give back – to your community and yourself.”
To donate blood, participants must be at least 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in general good health. Appointments and additional information are available here.
Walk-ins are welcome.
