ANAHEIM, Calif. (KTRE) – Former Central Heights Blue Devil Grayson Rodriguez left the Angels’ 8-3 loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday in the third inning with tightness in his lower back.
The right-hander was making his sixth start of the season after beginning the year on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
Rodriguez exited the game in the third inning after hitting Cedric Mullins to load the bases with one out. Rodriguez told MLB.com he is doing all right.
“The second-to-last pitch my back tightened up on me pretty good there. I didn’t plan on coming out of the game. So right now just trying to deal with it,” Rodriguez said. “Not too concerning right now but obviously I’m concerned because I came out of the game for it. It’s just going to be something that we’re going to have to manage over the next couple days.”
Rodriguez finished the game pitching 2 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out one and walking two. This season, Rodriguez has an 8.06 ERA in 25 2/3 innings.
The Angels have not placed Rodriguez on the injured list. His next scheduled start is later in the week, on either Thursday or Friday.
