CSU workers union rally at SF State as contract talks continue – NBC Bay Area

Members of the California State University system’s largest workers union are rallying Tuesday outside the library at San Francisco State University as contract negotiations continue.

The CSU Employee Union represents more than 36,000 staff workers and student assistants.

Student assistants are working to secure their first contract, while the staff contract is set to expire at the end of the month.

The union says if agreements cannot be reached, workers could go on strike for the first time in the union’s history. Union leaders say job insecurity and wages are among their top concerns.

Both sides are negotiating on campus Tuesday.

In a statement, a CSU spokesperson said the CSU “is committed to bargaining in good faith toward achieving an agreement that recognizes and supports the work of our staff in fulfilling CSU’s mission.”

The San Francisco State campus remains open and operating during the rally.
