REDDING, Calif. — Two San Francisco residents were found dead inside a vehicle stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 5 north of Fawndale Road on Monday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers from the Redding Area office came across a 2022 Jeep Compass stopped on the right shoulder of northbound Interstate 5 at approximately 5:46 p.m. on June 15.
According to CHP, the vehicle was running when officers discovered the driver and passenger unresponsive inside. A second officer and medical personnel responded to the scene and provided emergency aid, but both occupants were pronounced dead.
The driver was identified as 84-year-old Judith Sheldon, and the passenger as 86-year-old Wylie Sheldon, both of San Francisco. CHP said next of kin have been notified.
Investigators believe the deaths may be medically related, though the circumstances and exact causes remain under investigation.
The CHP Northern Division Investigative Services Unit is leading the investigation. Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
