BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield police and several other local agencies cleared 22 encampments along the Kern Riverbed between Coffee Road and 24th Street, an operation that also resulted in 10 arrests.

Police said crews removed 46.17 tons of trash from the sites.

Before the operation, Flood Ministries responded to the area to provide resource options to people experiencing homelessness.

Police said 10 people were arrested and charged with crimes related to illegal camping, narcotics possession and active warrants.

Agencies involved in the operation included the Bakersfield Police Department’s Impact Unit and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (drone) Unit, the City of Bakersfield’s Code Enforcement, Rapid Response Team, park rangers, Bakersfield Animal Control, and the Kern County Mental Health Department’s Mental Evaluation Team.
