BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Tejon Ranch is encouraging children to swap their electronics for books with their new program aiming to bolster family literacy and inspire reading.
The new program, called the Tejon Tales Summer Reading Adventure, will allow children to earn prizes and rewards for competing in reading challenges throughout the summer.
The program comes at a time when educators and parents are continuing to stress the importance of reading and maintaining strong reading habits outside of the classroom.
“Summer is a time for adventure, imagination and making memories as a family,” said Becca B. Bland, director of marketing for Tejon Ranch Company. “We wanted to create a program that encourages children to keep reading while also giving families a fun experience they can enjoy
together.”
Program participants will receive a “Trail Map Passport” to complete their reading activities on through the summer to earn prizes. The program is open to all ages.
Some of the prizes include a Tejon Tales collectible patch, a wooden Tejon Tales bookmark and a $15 Visa gift card.
Children who complete and return their passport by Aug. 1 will be entered in a drawing to win other Visa gift cards, a $500 gift card to Great Wolf Lodge, $500 Lego Land gift card and a $1,000 to Disneyland.
A limited number of passports will be available through July 12, while supplies last. They can be picked up from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Guest Services at the Outlets at Tejon.
