The community will get the chance Wednesday to see how expansion plans for the Sacramento Zoo could take shape at an open house gathering.Last month, the zoo released new concept renderings for its Land Park expansion proposal after Sacramento’s city council gave the proposal process the go ahead.According to current information posted on the zoo’s website, the expanded footprint would incorporate two new areas: 1.2 acres directly adjacent to the existing zoo, primarily along the current northern boundary and a 4.4 acre parcel across Land Park Drive from the zoo – an area previously used for a private pony ride operation.The additional space, totaling just under six acres, represents an approximately 40% increase in the zoo’s footprint, according to planners.It is space and flexibility, the zoo said, is needed for construction of new habitats and renovation of existing facilities without the need for lengthy zoo closures.People from across the community can find out more about expansion plans for the Sacramento Zoo and get an opportunity to voice their opinions or concerns about those plans.
