Juneteenth is commemorated on June 19, the anniversary of “the true end of slavery” in the United States.
Museums, art organizations, libraries, and cultural venues pay their respects to the annual observance in a host of meaningful and important ways, with concerts, art exhibits, bike rides, skate events, and talks on June 19 and the days surrounding the holiday.
In 2026, several Southern California institutions will honor Juneteenth; some events are ticketed, other happenings are free, and you may need to book your RSVP in advance.
The Broad Museum in Downtown Los Angeles will present Supervsn x The Broad on Friday, June 19. The five-hour event, which begins at noon, includes free admission and a celebration of “music, art, and creativity.” Live DJ sets will add to the vibrant atmosphere.
Pasadena’s Juneteenth Celebration is popping up at Pasadena City Hall on June 20 with a bevy of celebratory happenings. The NAACP 5th Annual Roller Jam is a centerpiece, and loaner roller skates will be available. The Armory Center for the Arts will lead craft activities, and DJ tunes will enhance the vibe.
The Hollywood Bowl presents A Juneteenth Celebration with Chance the Rapper, D-Nice, Vic Mensa, and the DC6 Singers Collective. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. on June 19 for the “… celebration of Black music, freedom, and artistic brilliance.”
The World Famous VIP Block Party: Juneteenth Edition is headed for Promenade Square Park in Long Beach on June 20. The “… experience brings together the sounds, style, and energy that have always lived in Long Beach, from hip hop to skate culture to smooth West Coast vibes, creative expression, and real community.”
A world-record attempt is coming up at Sculpture Park on June 19: The longest “Soul Train”-inspired line. The Juneteenth Celebration begins at 11 a.m. with music, art, offerings for families, and several celebratory happenings in store.
Cyclists will roll in the Juneteenth Freedom Ride on June 19. There are a few distances to choose from, starting at 9 miles, and the beginning point is Leimert Park. Participants are invited to join a festival at the conclusion of the ride.
Join a free scavenger hunt at the California African American Museum on June 19. While RSVPing isn’t a must, it is encouraged. Once you’re at the Exposition Park museum for the 2 p.m. event, you’ll roam the galleries with a focus on “close looking, conversation, and unexpected connections.”
The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and La Brea Tar Pits Museum will offer complimentary admission on Juneteenth from 3 to 5 p.m.; just head to the museum ticketing desk to pick up your free ticket.
LA County Library has several ways to mark Emancipation Day, with in-person programs, talks, and craft events. Check out the dates and locations on the library’s site and find a participating branch near you.
The Art Theatre of Long Beach is offering a complimentary screening of “Friday” (1995) on June 19. The film begins at 10 p.m. and you’ll want to book your ticket ahead of time at the independent cinema’s site.
The County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation has several free events on its 2026 Juneteenth calendar, beginning June 18. Look for happenings at Valleydale Park in Azusa, Jackie Robinson Park in Sun Village, and other destinations around the parks system (just be sure to check the date).
