23 of the Southern California Gold’s Gyms have been sold to the Dallas based company

23 locations of Gold’s Gym, the legendary Southern California chain with roots in Venice will now become EōS Fitness.

Known as the “Mecca of Bodybuilding,” the brand is famous for being one of the first to bring bodybuilding into the mainstream. Beginning with Joe Gold in 1965, when the sport was a more obscure area of the fitness industry, the gym would attract legendary figures like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno.

The gym has now sold all of its Southern California locations but retained the Venice Beach location. In an email sent to members, Gold’s Gym said, “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of our journey. It’s been an honor to serve you and we’re proud to leave this legacy in the hands of a team we trust.”

EōS has more than 200 locations in the U.S. and is known for its High Value Low Price model. Offering several membership types depending on location and amenities. Some memberships start at $15.99 per month, while others, such as “Lux” locations, have memberships starting at $54.99 per month and $74.99 per month. The Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles locations will fall under this category with upgraded amenities and equipment.

EōS plans to retain all of the franchise’s gym-level teams, adding more than 1,000 employees to the Dallas-based group. So far, there have been no reported changes for current Gold’s members, except now having access to all other EōS locations.

The transition marks the end of an era for the famed chain. Many attribute Gold’s success to helping establish Southern California as the nation’s fitness capital.

CEO of EōS, Rich Drengberg said, “The passionate leadership and dedication behind these gyms resonates deeply with our pursuit of excellence at EōS Fitness. We look forward to advancing this legacy and our shared values, enriched by the innovative thinking of the EōS leadership team.” Drengberg previously worked with Gold’s corporate team for 15 years before leaving to start EōS.
