If you haven’t donated to the Press-Telegram’s Send-a-Kid-to-Camp fund yet, you still have time — but not much.

The deadline is Sunday, June 21.

This is the 27th year of the Send-a-Kid-to-Camp campaign. The annual effort, which this year began in April, is a partnership between the Press-Telegram — and its sister publication, the Grunion Gazette — and the Long Beach Community Foundation.

The fund sends kids whose families couldn’t otherwise afford it to a one-week experience in mountain summer camps operated by the city’s “Big Five” youth organizations: the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach, YMCA of Greater Long Beach, Camp Fire Long Beach, the Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts, now known as Scouting America.

“It’s been another stellar year for the camp program,” said Tom Bray, the Press-Telegram’s senior editor. “We’re confident our readers will bring the drive to another strong finish.”

As of last week, this year’s campaign had raised $140,716 to send kids to camps in the great outdoors.

We invite you to make whatever donation you can in the time remaining. Remember, like everything else, costs keep increasing. The average cost of sending one youngster to a camp for one week is $600.

We thank you in advance for your donation, which will help make a difference in the lives of deserving youngsters.
