BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A second Handel’s Ice Cream is coming to Bakersfield and is set to open within the next few weeks, management says.
Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream is opening a new location at the shopping center at 9723 Panama Lane in south Bakersfield.
Deanna Lewis, the franchise owner for Bakersfield’s two Handel’s Ice Cream locations, said they are expecting to open on July 2. Lewis also owns and operates the Handel’s location at the Shops at River Walk on Stockdale Highway.
The River Walk location opened in November 2023 and has been a popular spot ever since. At times, lines can be seen out the door, but that location does not have seating.
Lewis told 17 News on Thursday, one reason they are opening its Panama Lane location is because of customer feedback — seating. Lewis said the Panama Lane location will have indoor and patio seating.
Handel’s opened its first location in Youngstown, Ohio in 1945 and has since grown to more than 150 locations in 15 states, according to the company’s website.
