Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout is headed to the injured list with a right hamstring strain, the club announced.
Trout, 34, was in the midst of a comeback season in which he’d posted an .866 OPS with 17 home runs. He was also poised to start his 12th All-Star game, with early voting totals placing him in second place among American League outfielders.
His ability to return before the All-Star Game is unclear. Speaking to reporters ahead of the Angels’ opener against the Athletics, Trout said he suffered the injury running to first base in the eighth inning of Wednesday’s 8-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is hopeful that it’s a short IL stint, though there is no timeline.
“From last night to to today, it’s a night and day difference, so that’s positive for me,” Trout said.
Despite a lengthy injury history over the last several seasons, Trout had only been given one off day so far in 2026. It came in April after he was hit by a pitch.
In his place, the Angels called up infielder Christian Moore, the club’s 2024 first-round pick. Over 51 games at Triple A, Moore posted a 1.053 OPS.
