Echo Park

Demolition is underway at Taix Restaurant, a longtime Echo Park landmark and one of L.A.’s oldest restaurants, to make way for a six-story mixed-use development. The restaurant, which opened downtown in 1927 and moved to Echo Park in 1962, closed earlier this year, one year shy of its centennial. A new version of Taix is expected to be included in the new building project.

Griffith Park

Plans for a new pedestrian-and-bicycle bridge that would connect Glendale with Griffith Park moved forward after environmental reports were approved earlier this month by the Glendale City Council. The S-shaped Glendale-Los Angeles Garden River Bridge will cross the river from the intersection of Flower Street and Fairmont Avenue in Glendale to North Zoo Drive by the northeast corner of Griffith Park. Plant beds along the extensively landscaped bridge will create dedicated zones for bikes and pedestrians. The span will also have shade structures, canopied seating areas, gathering spaces, and pedestrian safety lighting. Urbanize

Los Feliz

A six-story, 100% affordable-housing development with 40 apartments is being proposed for 1756 N Serrano Ave. — about a block north of Hollywood Boulevard, in Thai Town. A permit is being requested to demolish a single-family on that site. No new on-site parking is proposed.

Homeless housing in the Bridge Housing Center at 3061 W. Riverside Dr. has had its lease extended for up to three more years. The City Council approved the motion on Tuesday.

Silver Lake

Construction of 76 new apartments at 2413-2499 Silver Lake Blvd. near the Whole Foods Market was conditionally approved last week by the City Planning Commission after an initial delay resulting from complaints from current tenants on that property. The new four-story building and two five-story buildings would rise next to seven residential buildings with 48 apartments that already exist on site. The hearing had been continued from April 23 so issues could be addressed regarding management of the current buildings.
