Art in the Village fest
The annual Art in the Village fest, an open-air celebration of fine art hosted by the Carlsbad Village Association, is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 28 in downtown Carlsbad Village. The outdoor art gallery will cover four blocks, featuring 160 local and regional artists and their original works, including paintings, photography, sculpture and glasswork. The Coronado Rotary holds its 29th annual Low Tide Ride & Stride race starting at 8 a.m. July 18. ENCINITAS: Impact Coastal Alliance holds ribbon cutting for thrift store…
Impact Coastal Alliance recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony at its Encinitas Thrift Shop, 1542 Encinitas Blvd. The volunteer-run nonprofit alliance, formerly known as Assistance League of Rancho San Dieguito, has been supporting the community for nearly 30 years. The nonprofit recently separated from the National Assistance League, but plans to continue with the “same people and mission, under a new name.” The nonprofit’s philanthropic programs focus on students, community and victims of abuse along with local military families. The ribbon cutting drew community members and leaders, including Encinitas Mayor Bruce Ehlers along with representatives from the offices of Congressman Mike Levin, State Senator Catherine Blakespear, State Assemblymember Tasha Boerner, County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer, Encinitas Chamber of Commerce and One Safe Place. Summer Nights in the garden concerts
Summer Nights is back at the San Diego Botanic Gardens from 4 to 8 p.m. with extended garden hours June 25 to Aug. 6. Gala highlights art museum expansion

The 46th annual Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 27 in the 4800-5000 blocks of Newport Avenue and along the waterfront. Highlights include beachfront entertainment with live music on two stages, Chili Cook-Off, Artists’ Alley featuring handmade items by local artisans, food and merchandise vendors, family fun zones and community mural art along with the Ocean Beergarden for ages 21 and older. The OB Dirty Birds Wing Eating Contest and Hodad’s Burger Eating Contest will be in the afternoon on the main stage. Chili tastings will be offered, or attendees can purchase a master ticket for $30 to sample every entry and vote for a favorite. Foundation for Women Warriors hosts history film
The local nonprofit Foundation for Women Warriors hosts a free online screening of The Hello Girls from 4 to 6 p.m. June 24.The documentary includes rare 100-year-old film footage of some of America’s first female soldiers courtesy of the National Archives and family archives. In 1918, the U.S. Army Signal Corps sent 223 women to France as telephone operators to help win the Great War. By the end of the war, the women had connected over 26 million calls and were recognized by General John J. Pershing for their service.
