Justin Robert Kirk Dawson
OBITUARY
Justin Robert Kirk Dawson, 52, tragically passed away on April 15, 2026 in Oakland, Ca. He was born on June 14, 1973, in San Francisco, Ca to Karen Hammerquist and “Bobby” Dawson, Berkeley H.S. sweethearts. Justin spent his early childhood in Berkeley, Ca, near his father, his grandmother, Peggy Hammerquist.
When he was 5 he moved to Seattle, Washington, with his mother, his step-father Scotty (Violet Scott) and his newborn sister, Maya. In 1979 when he was almost six, his father “Bobby” suddenly died (29) in Oakland, Ca. — a loss that shaped him for the rest of his life.
Justin attended Seattle Public Schools, made many lifelong friends, and graduated from Garfield H.S. He was accepted into Hampton Univ. in Virginia however he remained in Seattle, WA, due to health issues, & the birth of his first & only daughter, Rashauna (34). His first son, Jewell Dawson Young, was born 4 years later in Seattle.
In the 1990s Justin returned to the Bay Area and worked in restaurants pursuing a Culinary degree before he created “Urban Estates,” a contracting business where he renovated and sold homes in the blighted areas of west and east Oakland. The success of this business came from his creativity, boundless energy, humor, and warmth. During these years he married Norma Parra and they raised 4 boys in their Oakland home.
He is preceded in death by his son Robert Earl Agustin Dawson (21), his father, Robert (Bobby) Earl Dawson (29), his step-father Violet Scott (74), his paternal grandfather, Joseph Hammerquist (95) and maternal grandmother, Earlene Hagler (92).

Scott; and sister Maya Scott-Martin (Douglas Martin), his children: Rashauna Dawson (34), Jewell Dawson (31), Joseph Villaviencio (30), Joshua Isaac Dawson (26), and Carlos Parra Dawson (10), and 3 grandchildren, Penelope (8), Delilah (5), and Parker Dawson (1+ months).
