Planning on welcoming a pal over the Fourth of July weekend?
You may put out colorful cookies, the kind of sweets that boast the Stars & Stripes, and including a few toiletries near their bedside is always a classy move.
But if you stop by Pasadena Humane to meet a new pal on July 2, a fur-covered houseguest who doesn’t require cookies nor the human-type creature comforts found at a bedside, you may be in for a different sort of holiday: Less busywork and hosting duties, more snuggling and adventure-filled hikes.
The Raymond Avenue animal center has become known for its holiday foster sleepover programs in recent years, and the adorable effort is revving up again for Fourth of July 2026.
How can you help? Offer to foster an adoptable dog over the fireworks-filled holiday, and keep the canine close for cuddles if the nighttime noises beyond your window get too intense.
“Made possible by the generous support of the Trisha & Heidi Muse Hug Fund, this special short-term getaway is designed to give our large dogs a much-needed break from the shelter over the holiday weekend, with all supplies and support provided by our dedicated Foster team,” is the good word from Pasadena Humane.
You’ll need to pre-register for the 4th of July Foster Sleepover — sign-ups are open through June 30 — and do make plans to pick up your houseguest on July 2.
Also important to know: Pasadena Humane is closed July 4. That said, if you need help in a pinch, emergency assistance will be provided over the holiday.
